Rebecca Diane VanAlstine

Rebecca Diane Van Alstine, 51, of Barton, NY passed away Sunday morning, July 3, 2016 at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY.
Becky was born May 13, 1965 in Waverly, NY. She was the daughter of Frank W. and Wilma Shoemaker Baumgartner. She was a graduate of Sayre High School, class of 1983, and continued her education at Bloomsburg University where she graduated in 1987 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. During and after college, Becky served as a substitute direct care staff member at Martha Lloyd Community Services in Troy, PA and later became a full time program specialist at the Coppertree, remaining there for 30 years. Becky also served as a substitute elementary teacher for the Sayre and Athens School Districts in early years. Becky enjoyed the outdoors: going camping, raising cattle, sitting around campfires, and spending time at the lily pond in her back yard.
Surviving is her fun-loving, devoted, and dorky husband, James R. Van Alstine whom she married on July 28, 1990.

her siblings, Julianne Wright of Sayre, Marilee Brabson and husband George of Royersford, PA, Frank M. Baumgartner of Sayre, Eric Baumgartner and wife Tina of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Jeremy Baumgartner and wife Stephanie of Beaverton, OR, Libby Seyfried and husband Daniel of White Hall, PA, nieces and nephews, William "Billy" Wright, Evan and Sydney Brabson, Emma and Charlotte Baumgartner, Kiersten and Sean Baumgartner, Alanna, Leah, and Alexa Baumgartner, Matthew, Lindsey and Noah Seyfried, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends and her canine companion Bella.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Frank W. Baumgartner on March 4, 2015 and her brother-in-law, William “Bill” Wright on July 5, 2015.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home 314 Desmond St. Sayre, PA. A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, July 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, S. Elmer Ave. Sayre, PA. Interment will be private in the Barton Cemetery, Barton, NY.
