DEATH NOTICE

Robert James "Bucky" Walters

of Escondido, California at the age of 82; on July 16th, 2016.

Wife of Mary (nee Koch) Walters.  Father of Michelle (Bill) Bretag, Michael (Summer) Walters and Karen (Ben) Robles.

Brother of Norma Jean (Ed) Ambrose and Pat (Kathy) Walters.

Also survived by 12 grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to join the family for The Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica on Saturday; October 15th at 9:15 a.m.  Interment will Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

OBITUARY

Robert (Bucky) James Walters

January 8,1934 – July 16, 2016

   Robert James Walters died peacefully at home on July 16, 2016, in Escondido, California. Robert was born in Lackawanna, New York, on January 8, 1934.  He went to Canisus High School in Buffalo, where he played basketball and football, and then attended Canisus College to which he received an academic scholarship. In 1953, he went on to attend the University of Notre Dame.

   In 1954, Robert began his flight training for the United States Navy. During this time, he served at computer programming centers and was a Navy pilot with Attack Squadron 52.  He was awarded nine air medals, the Navy Commendation Medal/Combat “V”, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Upon finishing his stint in the Navy in 1967, Robert started work at NCR Corporation working as a computer programmer and in software development.

Robert enjoyed playing competitive handball and trips to the beach.  He enjoyed coaching his son’s sports team and continued to pursue his love of flying planes until his eyesight no longer allowed him to do so. Robert had a good sense of humor and was a man of integrity, courage, and spirit.  He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and a member of Saint Mary’s and Saint Timothy’s parish in Escondido, California as well as a parishioner of Our Lady of Victory in Lackawanna, New York.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Ang, of 46 years, his children Michelle (Bill), Michael (Summer), and Karen (Ben), 12 grandchildren, his sister Norma Jean Ambrose (Ed) and brother Pat Walters (Kathy), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and friends.  As a man of steadfast integrity and love, he recognized the eternal joy that formed these relationships.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Agnes and Wilfred Walters and his brother Billy Walters. Services for Robert are scheduled for October 15, 2016 at 9:15 at Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna, New York.
